Beidou Navigation System goes to perfection

Beidou System@peterpeng210.blogspot.com

Recently, China announced its Beidou development strategy following the successful launch of the eighth Beidou satellite.

Besides the system’s active location function as before, the system will add on the passive location system to be compatible with GPS, GALILIO, and GLONASS. This will greatly expend its both military and civilian usability.

In October 2009 I wrote a comment named Stranded in Shallow Water, Chinese Navy’s Fate. The comment analyzed the disadvantage of Beidou active location system in military utilization. The newly announced Beidou development strategy with passive location system obviously corrected the disadvantage.

According to the strategy, the Beidou system will become a global navigation and positioning system formed with more than 30 satellites by 2020. Even in a civilian role, the system will also greatly benefit China through the business chain it creates on navigation chips, navigation devices manufacturing, etc.

China is now a country, which has the most cell phone users. Next year China will have the most automobile users in the world, the China’s Statistic said.

China’s political stage is gradually and quietly changing. These days, The China Central TV entertainment channel is airing a TV drama series called Those Charming Past Events 那些迷人的往事. The drama told TV audience a touching story between the heroine Yu Kangmei 于抗美 and the family of the commander of China Southern Military Region during years from 1970s to 1990s.

The drama praised the region commander Yang Sanhu 杨三虎for his charisma and expressed sympathy for his miserable fate. The 30 series TV drama was completed in 2007 but was not allowed to air on CCTV until June of 2010. From the drama people can know the story of the commander of the China Southern Military Region, Yang Sanhu, came from the real life of one of the former commanders of the China Guangzhou Military Region广州军区, Ding Sheng丁盛.

Ding Sheng 丁盛 was born in 1913. In 1955 he was awarded the rank of Major General in China. Between 1969 and 1973 he served as the commander of the Guangzhou Military Region 广州军区. Because of his royalty to Mao Zedong 毛泽东 during the political fighting between Mao and Lin Biao 林彪 in 1972, he was dispatched in 1973 by Mao to the Nanjing Military Region 南京军区as the commander, so as to protect the political base Shanghai of Mao’s wife Jiang Qing 江青 to against Deng Xiaoping邓小平 and Ye Jianying 叶剑英.

After Mao’s death, the China Central Military Committee, which began to be controlled under Deng Xiaoping and Ye Jianying, quarantined Ding Sheng in 1977. In 1982 Ding Sheng was commanded to quit from Chinese military and was fired from Chinese Communist Party. He passed away on September 25, 1999, two years after Deng Xiaoping’s death. That time, the Chairman of the China Central Military Committee was Jiang Zemin 江泽民. On Ding Sheng’s funeral, it was not allowed to called him as Comrade or General. What he could be called was Old Man Ding Sheng.

Now the air of the TV drama series Those Charming Past Events on the China Central TV told us Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin’s influences in Chinese military are fading away after eight-year leading from Hu Jintao 胡锦涛.
